water tower fun

Instead of going to the beach, or playing in the water, Lohbado stood on the street and took photos of an old water tower along the Lachine Canal in Montreal. One doesn't have to spend money, hop on a plane, or drive a great distance to enjoy a vacation. For this vacation, Lohbado rode the metro from Cote des Neiges to the St Henri/Lachine neighborhood. A vacation involves making a break with routine in order to relax and tune into the sights and sounds one barely noticed or took for granted. Things appear in a new and vivid light, quite refreshing to the mind.

evening pictures

Lohbado went for an evening bike ride and took a few photos of how the brick glowed in the warm light.

a cyclist used a cell phone to call the fire department
While out on an evening ride, Lohbado rode past the scene of a garbage bin on fire. A cyclist called the fire department. Fortunately, they arrived in time to prevent the fire from spreading to the building.

Fur of the Cat

too much to drink

hangover the next day
There's an old saying: have a drink when you wake up to reduce the hangover. This is called hair of the dog. Lohbado didn't take a drink. Instead, he reclined in an easy chair and let the cat nap on his belly and chest. The healing effect of the cat reduced Lohbado's hangover. In Club Morono, this is called "fur of the cat".

Lohbado's vacation day 2

Yesterday Lohbado rode east along the canal. Today he rode west. It takes a while to get in shape. Two days of riding, the body gets sore. Here's a random selection from today. It's amazing how fast old factories and warehouses are quickly being bought up and turned into condos or living units. First artists inhabit the buildings. Then the artists get kicked out. The buildings are divided up and sold.

pretty as a post card

This year Lohbado is taking a holiday in Montreal. When one takes a holiday, it used to be popular to buy post cards, generic images with heavily saturated colours and a glossy finish. Lohbado decided to make his own post cards. Here are some images he took while riding a noisy old bike along the Lachine Canal. The visual richness of Montreal makes the city a bikers paradise.

return from Europe

It's nice to be home again, after a fabulous visit to Europe. A little jet lag, relax a few days, enjoy the summer...

arctic memories

Payne River
Lohbado was searching through his image library and discovered many photos taken in the Arctic between 2006 and 2009. For more pictures of the north and life in Kangirsuk, Lohbado made a blog called not obscure, but he didn't own the blog. So he kept it as an archival site.

this great Dane is not dogmatic

The great Dane gazed across the tundra. Woof! Why is the root word of dogmatic "dog"? Dogmatic has negative connotations. Dogma exerts a limiting force on the mind. The above dog in the picture does not wish to be limited. The dog would like to run free, with great joy.

A few principles of Club Morono: don't be dogmatic. Question assumptions, opinions and beliefs. Be willing to admit mistakes. Be willing to learn about and appreciate what lies beyond the boundaries of self-interest.

friendly barbecue

Here's a few photos from a barbecue yesterday evening. Lohbado started taking photos, but as more guests arrived, he put away the camera and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and lively conversation.

Lohbado on the Plains of Radiation

from a painted book, acrylic on paper
Cold and the discomfort of lying on rocky ground woke Lohbado at 3 AM. Before going to sleep, he placed some moss under the rock, threw a groundsheet over top and crawled into the sleeping bag. There was enough overhang from the rock to provide shelter from the light rain. The ground sloped, so that no water flowed into the cave-like shelter of the rock.

non-identity identity

digital painting
Lohbado and Nora had an interesting discussion about identity. They concluded that identity is a transparent dream-like abstract phenomena based on infinite regress.

Party picture

Lohbado is a bit behind on photos and things. However, slow but sure. Here's a photo from a party at Christina and Gord's a couple weeks ago.

Lohbado Romance

The veil of conventional decorum that had kept them at distance over the past three years dissolved. They melted into a piercingly sweet and slightly melancholic communion. They floated above magic flesh-coloured hills at the edge of a turquoise ocean. A soothing melody, sinuous, as if following a stream of thought, resonated from within. Waves of biofeedback swept them into a sea of ecstatic wellbeing.

bardo lohbado

This is like the bardo, a gap, in between, some sort of thinking and grammar, much talk about nothing and everything... Lohbado is working on more pictures. It's a slow steady process. A revised Book of Oogah is in the works.

dream solitude

Lohbado woke up at 4:30 AM, sat outside with a coffee to watch sunrise. He walked to the park, where he saw the regular people who go to the park to walk or jog. He sat in the park for a while then walked home, past the strip mall, where people were gathering to socialize and have a coffee. A friendly garbage man greeted Lohbado. The neighbour's cat ran across the street.
