earth ritual
Video from Kangirsuk 2006, some roots and moss burning in a rock ledge... There's something eerie about being out in the tundra. The elements come to life. The ancient Greek saying seems true: there is a soul in all things. To make a smoke offering at a rock altar goes back thousands of years. It's a way of confirming one's devotion to sanity, confessing one's arrogance and lack of mindfulness. While making the fire, one imagines making an offering to the cosmos. It opens the mind to the beauty and goodness of nature.
